Reiki (pronounced RAY-key) is a Japanese technique for administering guided life energy for relaxation and stress reduction which supports the body's natural healing processes on physical, emotional and spiritual levels.
All living creatures have energy flowing through their physical bodies. This is often called chi or ki (as in Reiki). It is important to keep this energy flowing in a way that supports our health and well-being because imbalances may cause symptoms to develop. Imbalances can have many causes which include stress, anxiety, trauma and the environment.
What is a session like?
Although not massage, a massage table is used to allow for deeper relaxation. All clothing remains on except for shoes. While soft music plays in the background, the practitioner places her hands lightly on or just above the recipient's body utilizing various hand positions for a complete treatment from head to feet. The Reiki energy flows from the palms of the practitioner into and around the recipient's body. Sessions conclude in about one hour with a few minutes included at the end for questions and discussion.
What does Reiki feel like?
Durring a session, feelings of warmth and deep relaxation are very commonly reported. After Reiki, recipients often say they feel refreshed, have more patience and a more positive, balanced outlook.
Is Reiki safe?
Yes. Reiki never does harm and is only beneficial in nature. Pregnant women, babies and children benefit from Reiki just like adults from all backgrounds and stages of life and health. It is important to note that Reiki may be a powerful complement to proper medical care but never a replacement.
